Deebo Samuel is not a first round prospect due to his injury concern, but he is still considered as one of the best receivers in this draft class. Most teams will pass on him due to his injuries along with the talent at receiver already present, but he will be a late round steal for whoever drafts him. I will look at three teams that could use a guy like Samuel.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay will have a new head coach and a new offensive coordinator. Head coach Matt LaFleur will call plays and have control of the offense, but if their offense needs anything, it’s a wide receiver who can make great catches. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still making ridiculous throws, but he had to rely on rookies Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown to make great catches, which they had trouble with. Deebo Samuel will be a great receiver for Aaron Rodgers and will take some of the load off Davante Adams. Samuel will also give some special teams help as a kick returner.
New York Jets
This is a tricky one because it really all relies on Sam Darnold’s growth. The Jets do have Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa, but they don’t have a true weapon that can run jet sweeps or make clutch catches. Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback in New York for awhile, but he needs help from his receivers to grow. Samuel would be a reliable target for an offense that has struggled a lot.
The only reason the Bears would need a receiver is because they need a guy who can fit into head coach Matt Nagy’s system. The Bears do have Anthony Miller and Taylor Gabriel, who are both playmakers, but the talent still hasn’t produced ideal results. Samuel would fit in well with the Bears because he can be used in so many ways, especially since Nagy loves to the jet sweep, which Samuel excels at. The Bears also need a red zone threat, which Samuel also excels at. The Bears also need a kick returner, especially since they got rid of the legendary Devin Hester. Samuel would make the Bears the most dangerous return team in the NFL along with punt returner Tarik Cohen. The Bears also don’t care about injuries as much because in 2017, they drafted Eddie Jackson out of Alabama, who was drafted late due to his injury concern.
Deebo Samuel will make any team better due to his playmaking ability, but his injury concern will place him lower in the draft. Fansided has compared him to current Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs. His hands will make him a valuable draft pick.
