After big win in College Station, does South Carolina still have a realistic shot at the NIT?

Let’s be honest, South Carolina was never expected to make the NCAA Tournament at the beginning of the year.

The realistic expectations for them is that they would make the NIT. They can still make the NIT and their 71-54 win over Texas A&M last night increased their chance of making the NIT.

The only thing saving the Gamecocks is their 10-7 SEC record, which can be improved with one last game against Georgia and the SEC Tournament.

This was the type of game the fans wanted to see, especially with AJ Lawson still out. Chris Silva was the star of the game with 22 points and 17 rebounds. He also made four out his four three-pointers, which is very uncommon for him.

The Gamecocks as a team made 56.5 percent of their three-pointers while the Aggies only made 21.7 percent of theirs. Hassani Gravett, who started in place of Lawson, put up 17 points and eight assists. He also made four out of his seven three-pointers.

South Carolina will play Georgia on Saturday in their last regular season game, which will also be Senior Night for the Gamecocks.

Right now South Carolina has the fourth seed in the SEC tournament, and a win over Georgia would secure that spot due to a head-to-head victory over Auburn, who is currently tied for fourth in the SEC.
