Three Bold Predictions For Gamecocks vs. CSU

Welcome to week two.

The Gamecocks are coming off of a disappointing season opener against UNC.

Meanwhile, Charleston Southern is coming off of a blowout loss to Furman.

I don’t expect a lot of people to show up tomorrow because it’s a noon game against a FCS team in sweltering heat.

I also think that not a lot of people will be inspired for this game. The one thing I think people will show up for is freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski, who is making his first college start.

I have three predictions for tomorrow that I’m not sure are bold because this should be a blowout:

Ryan Hilinski throws for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns

I know a lot of fans will be excited to see Hilinski in his first career start.

I think he’ll tear up Charleston Southern’s defense because even Furman put up 46 points on them.

Hilinski will be pumped up and hopefully the offense will look a little more creative.

I think Hilinski will look more comfortable in the pocket than Bentley, and I think the readjustments on the offensive line will give him more time to throw.

Tavien Feaster has a feast with CSU’s defense

Normally I’d say that Feaster won’t get a ton of carries because the coaching staff wants to keep him healthy, but Muschamp isn’t known for pulling starters in a “cupcake” game.

CSU’s run defense is also a MESS.

They let Furman average 9.2 yards per carry, and three of Furman’s running backs finished with at least 80 yards.

Feaster will have fun with that defense, and I expect him to get a majority of the carries.

South Carolina pitches a shutout

South Carolina’s defense looked bad in the fourth quarter against a true freshman quarterback.

They crumbled like they did against Florida last year.

Muschamp knows that he needs to get his defense back together. He somehow always finds a way to win the fan base back with an impressive win over a team they should beat.

I think the defense will play a lot better than they did against UNC mostly because they won’t be on the field as long.

I expect Hilinski to move the ball and create long scoring drives that will keep the defense off the field.

This may not be the best week to make bold predictions, but it will be fun to see Hilinski in his first career start.

It will also be interesting to see Dakereon Joyner taking his first real game snaps as a quarterback.

Give me the Gamecocks in a 49-0 blowout.
