Simply Put, None Better: Stephon Gilmore Named NFL Defensive Player Of The Year

Stephon Gilmore becomes first Cornerback since 2009 to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year at the NFL awards show.

In the midst of the Super Bowl, the NFL hosted it’s award show to celebrate some of the greatest players this season for their talent and dedication.

The Patriots seem to have made a good investment with South Carolina alum Stephon Gilmore.

Since 2017, when New England signed his $65 million dollar, Gilmore has been phenomenal earning himself the NFL DPOY award at tonight’s NFL Honors show.

Very few cornerbacks earn the DPOY award with only two winning since 1994 (Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson).

Surprisingly, Gilmore is the first player to garner that New England red, white and blue to earn the award.

“To be the first player in Patriots histroy to win defensive player fo the year is a great honor.” said Gilmore.

Gilmore lead the NFL with six interceptions, a couple of which turned into pick-sixes.

He also defended 20 passes in the season making him first in that statistic. Gilmore was named first-team All Pro for the second year in a row.

The Gamecock alumni led the Patriots to be one of the best defenses in the league, where they led the NFL in points and yards allowed.

Gilmore was a pro-bowler and represented the Patriots for the AFC last week, making his university proud.
