Beloved Lady Gamecock A’ja Wilson has been absolutely phenomenal for the Las Vegas Aces this WNBA season. With the start of the WNBA bubble season, Wilson has been on an tear.
Wilson scored 20 points in the win over the Washington Mystics, while shooting 67% from the field. These stats are just the surface of what Wilson is and will be doing for Las Vegas this season.
Wilson is currently third in scoring, where she averages 19.8 points a game only trailing Arike Ogunbowale by two-tenths of a point. She is also sixth in rebounds, where she notches over nine rebounds a game, making her nearly average a 20 point double-double on the season.
It’s important to note that the Aces are number one in rebounding on the season and a-lot of that can be credited to Wilson.
Wilson has a whopping 42% field goal percentage, which is extremely impressive for a ball-handling forward.
Wilsons resume for MVP is more than just stats. Wilson is one of the most influential WNBA players in the league and it’s not even close.
Wilson is on the Social Justice Council becoming an activist. She advocates for the justice of Breanna Taylor, a black-woman tragically gunned down, before and after every game.
On top of the social work she does, she also has a foundation that provides resources to youth with dyslexia and helps speak against bullying with various camps, events and grants.
On top of the social work that she tremendously does, she is leading the Aces to be one of hte best teams in the league. Wilson is a clear MVP candidate and can secure the award if she continues to will the Aces night in and night out.
Wilson has also started a podcast with her friend and competitor Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx. The podcast is called Tea With A and Phee to discuss the season and a variety of life topics with other athletes.
Already in their third episode Wilson and Collier were able to have NBA Mega-Superstar Kevin Durant on the show. Durant discussed injury, playing with Russell Westbrook and his love life among other things.
That being said The Spurs Up Show would absolutely love to be featured on an episode of Wilson’s podcast.
We believe it would be great for Gamecock fans to hear directly from her and to talk about her love for the university.
