NFL Gamecocks To Watch For In Week Ten

While South Carolina is struggling this season, some former players are really playing well in the NFL this year. There are some surprises like Mike Davis and Damiere Byrd, but also players like Deebo Samuel and Hayden Hurst are continuing their success.

Here are my players to look out for in week ten:

Mike Davis

Christian McCaffery has really struggled with injuries this year, but that gave Davis the opportunity to show that he’s a starter quality running back.

Even with McCaffery starting last week, Davis still had some production for the Carolina offense.

This week, he faces a very tough Tampa Bay defense. Tampa Bay has held almost every running back they’ve faced this season to limited yardage, so Carolina will have to get a little creative with Davis.

Damiere Byrd

Byrd has really come through as a solid receiver for the Patriots.

Although Cam Newton and the Patriots have struggled this year, Byrd and Jakobi Meyers have turned into solid receivers. Byrd hasn’t had a breakout game yet, but he’s been a reliable target for Newton.

He’s the Patriots’ leading receiver this season, and he’ll have a chance to show his skills on Sunday night.

Jared Cook

Cook has had an interesting season so far. He’s been a reliable redzone target, but his production has fallen off a bit recently.

He had a dropped touchdown last week, which ended his streak of three straight games with a touchdown. He has also seen some targets fall to rookie tight end Adam Trautman.

He’s still a reliable target for Drew Brees, but he needs to get in the end zone again to keep his place as the number one tight end for the Saints.

DJ Wonnum

Wonnum has had a pretty good rookie year with the Minnesota Vikings. As a Bears fan, I hate saying that you want to watch him this week since the Vikings play the Bears on Monday night.

Wonnum secured a victory against the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago when he forced a fumble on Aaron Rodgers on the last play. He has the potential to be a really disruptive defensive lineman.

The Bears have arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL this year. That sets up Wonnum for a big game in his rookie year. Wonnum should give Nick Foles a hard time on Monday.

Conclusion

There are still some injuries plaguing former Gamecocks like Deebo Samuel and Stephon Gilmore, but there are still some players to watch this weekend.

There are still other players doing well like Javon Kinlaw, but these are the players I want to watch this weekend.

Even if South Carolina loses on Saturday, some Gamecocks will shine on Sunday.
