South Carolina couldn’t beat Missouri this weekend, but hopefully you got to watch some former Gamecocks perform on Sunday. There were a few solid performances, but one performance really surprised me.
Here are my top performances for former Gamecocks in the NFL last week, including my MVP:
MVP: Damiere Byrd
Byrd really took flight in the Patriots’ loss to the Texans. Byrd finished with six receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown.
What a throw.

What a catch.

This was his first NFL game with over 100 yards. He also had one rush for 11 yards. The Patriots do rely on their running backs a lot in the passing game, so this was a huge game for Byrd. He clearly established himself as the number one receiver for the Patriots.
With Rex Burkhead out for the year, Byrd should only see an increase in targets.
Mike Davis
If I were Davis, I would find a new team after this year. Not that the Panthers are bad, but Davis is a starter in a backup role for the top running back in the NFL.

Davis finished with 19 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown against the Lions. He’s a workhorse running back with great strength, and he’s surprisingly elusive. I think he would work really well with Sean McVay and the Rams, but wherever he ends up he will be a key piece of that offense.
Conclusion
That’s pretty much it for notable performances from this week. A lot of the stars either had byes or just didn’t do all that well this week. Either way, there are plenty more opportunities for former Gamecocks to shine this week. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy a whole week of football.
