After the addition of an A’ja Wilson statue outside of Colonial Life Arena, what other alumni could be up next for their very own statue on campus?
Gamecock Women’s Basketball standout A’ja Wilson now has a statue just outside of her old college basketball stadium. Just a couple yards outside of CLA, there is now a towering statue resembling the former number one overall pick.
A’ja Wilson was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces, in the WNBA, and has had a few very successful seasons in the league. Her career averages are 19 points per game, seven rebounds and a couple of assists, and this year was only her third year in the league. Wilson led the team to their first conference championship since relocating to Las Vegas, and the future for the Aces seem so very bright.
In her senior year, Wilson was the consensus Women’s Basketball player of the year and won the Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy. In her junior year, Wilson helped lead the Lady Gamecocks to their first ever NCAA National Championship in the 2017 season. Wilson is definitely a Gamecock great and the future of the women’s basketball program will remember her impact at the school for a very long time, but that leads us here at The Spurs Up Show to wonder, who deserves a statue next?
