Countdown To Gamecocks Kickoff Player Spotlight: Wide Receiver Chad Terrell

There’s only 86 days until South Carolina kicks off against Eastern Illinois at Williams-Brice Stadium, so today let’s look at number 86 on the roster.

Chad Terrell is a redshirt senior wide receiver who has sort of been overlooked over his collegiate career. He’s dealt with injuries, including a torn ACL in each knee. Despite all that, he will be a key part of a receiving corps that is a little thin.

Terrell was a three star recruit out of Dallas, Georgia who was recruited by former offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon. Terrell had 22 offers in high school which included Ole Miss and Oregon. He decided to attend South Carolina but has dealt with injuries ever since his freshman year.

In his freshman year, he only caught three passes for 20 yards. He did make the First Year SEC Academic Honor Roll, but he dealt with injuries throughout the year.

In his Sophomore year, he redshirted after tearing his ACL in Spring practice. He only had some snaps on special teams that year.

In 2019, he caught four passes for 56 yards. He continued to make an impact on special teams, but he was coming off of his torn ACL. Last year, Terrell once again tore his ACL in spring practice. He did not return last year.

This year, Terrell has a chance to make an impact because the receiving room isn’t exactly the best South Carolina has seen. He will have to compete with guys like Xavier Legette, Dakereon Joyner, and Jalen Brooks among others, but he can provide solid depth if he can overcome his injuries.

The transfer of Ahmarean Brown from Georgia Tech will make it tougher, but who knows what will happen in the fall. If Luke Doty really gets his arm going this year, Terrell should see an increase in production.
