Gamecocks Football 2022 Newcomers Review: Antwane Wells Jr.

Wells’ stat line at JMU speaks for itself. In his freshman year he put up crazy numbers and was an FCS All American. Rattler to Wells will be money for the Gamecocks this season, just as Shane Beamer intended it.

The 6’0” 204 pound crafty WR has great speed and better hands. Wells was credited with zero drops in 2021. He racked up 83 catches, 1250 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

While at JMU, Wells received a lot of accolades including FCS Second Team All-American, HERO Sports FCS Second Team and Freshman All-American, Phil Steele FCS Fourth Team and Freshman All-American, First Team All-CAA wide receiver, VaSID University Division Offensive Rookie of the Year, and VaSID First Team All-State.

Skills

Wells is so naturally gifted, I am just going to run through a few of the things he’s great at.

First of all, Wells has 4.3 speed, but not only that his change of direction is what makes him great. His ability to high point the football is among the best in the SEC.

Wells has the skills to be a great player in the SEC and beyond.

Role in 2022

Wells could very well be WR1 in 2022. Now, I understand that Josh Vann is still in house but Wells is just that good.

Vann might still be WR1 but the prediction we are going to see from Wells will draw that type of attention from teams.

All in all, Shane Beamer owned the portal this year and Wells could be the best out of all the guys he got. Yes, that includes Rattler.

Over the next two years, Wells will become a household name in Columbia and the rest of Carolina.
