With spring football starting up, I figured we should dive back into some of the new faces in Gamecock football.
Next up, highly touted DB Keenan Nelson Jr. The Pennsylvania product looks to make an instant impact in 2022.
Let’s get into what makes Nelson an All-American.
Player Overview
Nelson is a very good player who has a great frame to play SEC Safety. One of the things Nelson is best at is staying calm with the ball in the air.
His body control is that of a veteran DB which will lead to early college success. Nelson is a speedster, he could very well end up playing a lot of Nickle CB.
He possesses not only great acceleration but high-level closing speed.
The 4 star DB from Philadelphia got to play against Gamecock QB Braden Davis this year. Nelson and St. Joe’s Prep dominated Davis and Middleton 24-6.
Role in 2022
While I don’t think Nelson will be a full-time starter in 2022, I do think he will get playing time. Nelson will eventually be a full-time safety for South Carolina, but right now I see him filling in anywhere as needed.
He can play any DB position. So in 2022, it makes sense that White would use Nelson as needed.
Conclusion
Nelson is going to be a very good Gamecock and eventually an NFL regular. Nelson has the ideal frame, speed, and technical skills.
The 4-star, All-American will only develop even further under Clayton White.
